Starting in June, Noor will be offering six week-long Summer Art Camp Programs with three weeks in June and three weeks in July. Each week will have a unique theme exploring different realms of the art world to expand your child’s artistic knowledge and skills! With so many options for children’s summertime enrichment, it can be hard to prioritize how to spend your time and money. Here’s why Summer Art Camps (specifically Noor’s) are the best option for your child:
Art Camp vs Art Class
Many parents pass off the idea of an art camp because they assume their child will have the same experience as an art class, whether that be at school or a private studio. While these experiences are certainly worthwhile, a camp offers the time and space for a much deeper dive than a 1 or even 2-hour class can give.
Time Management
- At Noor our camp days run from 9am – 1pm providing multiple hours of artistic exploration without losing energetic momentum. During a typical school day there is always a class scheduled to visit the art room at the end of a full day of schoolwork. By the time they get to art class they are worn out from at least 5 hours of hard work. With an art camp they can devote all their attention and energy into their creative side without distractions.
- Another benefit of art camp schedules is the children are engaging in art activities through consecutive days of the week. Often in school, classes only go to art class once a week leaving ample time to forget creative ideas or lose inspiration needed to create meaningful artworks.
Interactive Experience
- One of the many fun aspects of our summer camps is the art-related games we play. We use these games to have our young artists interact with each other and build bonds over the creative process. In a classroom setting you are focused on your own work since you will be graded on it, but at Noor we encourage collaboration to help everyone’s creative vision grow together.
We’re Different in All the Best Ways
To be honest, there are a lot of places you can go to in Alpharetta for a children’s summer art camp, but everything about ours sets us apart from the rest. Here are some of our favorite reasons that we are unique:
- Something we strive for at Noor is to not be a “cookie-cutter” art studio. There are plenty of art activities and camps that have all the kids make the same project – mainly so everyone is focused on practicing a specific artistic skill or technique. We take a different approach by having a technical exercise specific to an artistic element or principle (for example creating a value scale) to gain a general understanding that can then be integrated into a unique project. This is partly made possible by teaching in small groups so that each child can receive individual guidance and support for their specific ideas.
- Another common practice with kids' art camps is providing cheap, low-quality materials and supplies. Due to our small group approach, we are able to provide high quality as well as unique art materials that you won’t find in a typical art studio. We believe giving children supervised access to semi-professional materials encourages confidence in their work as they start to see themselves as more “official” or “real” artists and not “just a kid” that is making art.
- Lastly, one of our major values here at Noor is the importance of quality over quantity. Many summer art camp programs have children make one project a day throughout a week-long program. This practice does not allow the child any time for creative development of a meaningful artwork, making them focus just on trying to finish what is put in front of them. As mentioned earlier, we have a small technical exercise everyday and then we spend some time during the first two days of the week sketching and brainstorming ideas until everybody has a fully formed concept that they are ready to bring to life! Following this process, our goal is for the kids to create 1 or 2 substantial artworks instead of 4 or 5 rushed ones.
